Where did the HCG Diet originate?

Fad diets, commonly perceived as new and effective ways of weight loss and eating lifestyles. There have been many fad diets that have gained great popularity, one of the earliest being the tapeworm diet of the mid 20th century. The Atkins diet and the South beach diet are popular fad diets of the 21st century. The hCG Diet, on the other hand, has been in the market and a fad diet since the 50’s. Fad diets are really defined as a diet style that gains momentary attention by the media and society for a short period of time until it gets old and a new one surfaces, same as trends in fashion and music. Like the hCG Diet, it was once crazed on by people and eventually lost its hype. But such a diet like the hCG Diet used to be a hype 6 decades ago, it was once a fad diet and is one again, today! How does a phenomenon like that happen in fad diets when they are only expected to be momentarily popular? More importantly, how did the hCG Diet come into the fad diet world?

The hCG Diet has been there all this time the other fad diets were on a spotlight. It was a British physician, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, who first discovered the use of the hCG hormone for weight loss while practicing his profession in Rome. For many years, this doctor has been on a mode of study and research on the matter of obesity. Finally, Dr. Simeons published his manuscript entitled “Pounds and Inches,” a book of great detail on the hCG Diet containing the original hCG Diet Plan. It was the hCG hormone that the doctor was most interested for the reason that the substance could be paired with a low calorie diet. Low calorie diets commonly give persistent side effects such as headaches, weakness and fatigue, hunger pains, vomiting, and the like. Dr. Simeons, in his studies, found that the hCG Diet works in such a way that it does not produce the same negative effects. He also was amazed by the fact that the hCG Diet injection emphasized on decreasing adipose tissue accumulations in areas such as the thighs, belly and the hips, making the changes more visible.

The effects and its efficiency of the hCG Diet made it seem convenient, easy and maintainable. Unfortunately, the diet was discouraged by the U.S. FDA, and even banned for sports use. The hCG Diet was black listed by many agencies saying that it was not a safe type of diet although it was convenient and fast. In the later years, the diet was somewhat found to be risky and dangerous.

Today, hCG is being made popular again having a modernized version of the hCG Diet Plan. Kevin Trudeau, an advocate of alternative medicine and a radio personality, revised the old hCG Diet protocol, fitting the style for new health discoveries and principles. Since the diet is fast and easy, being said to be able to lose 1-3 pounds in a day, it isn’t hard to imagine the popularity it is gaining today with the revised hCG Diet protocol. Fast, easy and convenient, many people are into the hCG Diet, hoping that that is the fad diet fit for them.
